Destined to become a classic, this is sure to send generations of children sweetly off to bed. In a question-and-answer format, familiar farm and forest animals tell readers how they go to sleep. “Little bird, little bird, in your nest, / how do you like to get your rest? / I gather some twigs, / and branches and leaves, / and snuggle, snuggle down / in the cool, cool breeze.” The rhythm and rhyme are reminiscent of Bill Martin Jr.’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See, and are sure to be a hit with the very youngest of listeners. Gorgeously detailed and realistic illustrations add to the charm. Elements that pop out of the artwork and curve around the text make the reader a part of the scene. A lovely addition to the genre.
