A sequel to As Gold in the Furnace, a biography of the founder of the Institute of Notre Dame, this volume contains the biography of Venerable Mother St. Joseph, confounder of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, a religious Institute devoted to the education of girls that has been in existence for over 150 years. Written in the style of a ""romanticized biography"", this book tells the story of an aristocrat's renunciation of her French estate to embark upon a life of selfless toil in the field of Christian education. It describes the trials and tribulations suffered at the hands of both governmental and ecclesiastical authorities, of the Institute and its Mother General, as well as the serious difficulties encountered from within the Institute itself. The charity and great ability of Mother St. Joseph finally triumphs over every obstacle. The story, as told here, is factual, well written and really very interesting and edifying.
