UNDERSTANDING POLITICS

It is not a good sales angle, when this has the subtitle of ""A Practical Guide for Women"" and when the whole approach is to the woman citizen, to have nothing of such a definite market in the title. For this is a book for all civic-minded, club and community conscious women, who would like to know the hows and whys of politics, who would more actively participate politically if they knew their way around. With 35 years of voting power, women are still political amateurs, still wasting their right to have a voice in governmental proceedings. It defines local, state and national machinery, the ways in which women meet politics from their daily life outward, new patterns of participation for women, and it follows the careers of some of the women who have already shown that women too have a place in politics. A map, lists of women in Congress, in 1948 State Legislatures, and a reading list of government structure and operation complete a useful, needed reference book.
