KIRKUS REVIEW

The original text of G is used as a basis for expansion and clarification of the story of creation, and Miss Raymond has successfully kept the rhythms and feel of the Bible text. I think children like the sonorous sound of words they cannot always understand. This is no rewrite simplification of the ""oldest story in the world"" and should not be bought with that expectation. It is a beautiful book, with lavish four color illustrations by Marie Stern (not always accurately gauged to the text, unfortunately, is where the light of the sun appears opposite the text telling of the darkness). I like the decorative illustrations, the flowers and birds and beasts, better than I do the human figures.
