THE STORY OF LUMBER

A popular author-illustrator team renders a crystal-clear description of the story of lumber from the felling of trees and the cry of ""Timber"", to the intricate workings of the sawmill --for 2nd and 3rd graders immersed in The Story Of ..... so many natural resources. Graceful and sweeping pictures in three colors illustrate every step of the way (though a more robust combination of colors might have been more effective). A short digression into the evils of forest fires and the importance of reforestation round out a social studies book which is more attractive -- surely a peg or two above the usual fare.
