Most of the selections are from recent books and other writers included are Saint Exupery, Heyerdahl, Maurice Herzog, Heinrich Harrer; the classics are substantially represented by two Bible stories, a selection from Prescott's Conquest of Mexico, another from The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini and so forth.
