HONEST COP: The Dramatic Life Story of Lewis J. Valentine

By

Publisher: Dutton

New York City's police commissioner as the basis for a good journalistic type of biography. Brief sketch of his youth -- then the steps by which he became known as the racket busting cop, serving on the strong arm squad. Political changes -- and demotion; another new slate and another chance, this time to break up professional gambling. Walker intervenes -- Tammany wants its gamblers protected. But, eventually, with La Guardia, the ""honest cop"" gets his chance and becomes commissioner. A signal instance of incorruptibility and integrity which is laudable against the hotbed of Tammany's dirty dealing. Journalese, accurate, an animated, selective clipping job. Can't see general sale -- the average layman will get rocked if he buys this one!
