QUILLS

Another in the Mesaland series of entertaining stories in natural settings which inform as they entertain. This time it is Quills the porcupine's story. He's a slow, stumbly fellow who falls out of trees, gets pecked on the nose by angry bluejays, foils Mr. Coyote and follows the daily dozen of a porcupine's life. Personalized but not too annoyingly so. The author is professor of education at the University of New Mexico and a specialist of desert animals and plant lore. Attractive layout and jolly, bright colored illustrations by Ralph Douglass. Beautiful, rich spruce green and bright red make this a rich looking production job. Attractive cover.
