FRIDAY'S CHILD

With Zola Helen Ross, this author has written two other good period stories for girls, both set in Washington state-The Stormy Year, and The Mystery of Catesby Island. Now Washington again and the present day background a honey of a newspaper story that should go a long way in introducing the young to the tough realities as well as the excitement that underlies the printed word. As hero and heroine are copy girl Fran, also a freshman at the University in Seattle, and copyboy Barry, worried and a little resentful over all the deterrents to making good. To Barry, Fran imparts some of her friendliness- and besides the couple of good chances Fran gets for local news (that make her realize the importance of clear writing as well as photography), there is the mystery of Barry's falsely convicted brother Phil which the two kids solve in a surprise ending. Not just glamour and quick advancement, but the fun of learning a satisfying job.
