BALD KNOBBERS

The ""Bald Knobbers"" were a self appointed vigilance organization in the Ozarks from 1885 to 1889. A period of general bushwhacking lawlessness made some sort of control imperative and the band (paralleling closely the original K K K organization) was formed by Captain Kinney. Two murders led to the trial and conviction of a county leader, and the Bald Knobbers were disbanded. Local item chiefly. Simply done. Based on contemporary records.
