Through the year with Everett Anderson. . .in February a ""specially ice cream boy to know"" . . .in November his sometime loneliness expressed with a ""thank you for Daddy wherever he is"" . . .and July his money problems coming to the fore in a topical problem as ""Everett Anderson thinks he'll make/ America a birthday cake/only the sugar is almost gone/and payday's not till later on."" Yes, Everett still has his shining moments, but one small verse per month makes a rather skimpy year and the belt-tightening mood is underlined by Grifalconi's somber red/black and blue/ black woodcuts. A more doleful Everett. . .still there are fond associations for those who remember some of his happier days.
