KIRKUS REVIEW

A novel of the seamier side of Broadway concerns itself with the career of Larry Stark a newspaperman who braves his way into a job on Showcase, a weekly, which with its advertising and publicity, has plenty of pull. Stark holds the job through ability, through contacts and hot scoops, and figures out more angles than the next guy, but drink and frustrations begin their work. He loses his girl, get stuck in some stories where it hurts, and latches on to a pay-back on his boss. This almost fails but gets off to a fair start... Not pretty, not pretty at all, for all its intimate knowledge of the music publishing business, the big and small time chiselers and Broadway's lower crust.
