The publisher's note announces that this selection of excerpts from Lyndon B. Johnson's major speeches were authorized by the President shortly after he assumed office. They were selected from speeches made during the period 1953 to 1964. Speaking first as Democratic Senate majority leader, then as Vice President, and then finally as President, Mr. Johnson's views range here from the practicalities of party issues to the affecting Thanksgiving address of 1963 and end with the State of the Union Message delivered on January 8th. Arranged in chronological order, they are introduced with a graceful essay from Adlai Stevenson which is followed by a reprint of the President's article ""My Political Philosophy"".
