KIRKUS REVIEW

This is for horse fanciers with the patience of Lyle, a fourteen-year-old boy who acquires half-wild Dragon, a famous POA stud of fifteen, and very slowly and gently trains him for Western performance competition. It's told from Dragon's point of view, beginning with the auction where Lyle's Dad buys him for $2,600, and an afterword explains that it's based on the true story of a 1961 International Pony of the America's Show champion (whose early life Lynn Hall described in A Horse Called Dragon, 1972).
