FRONTIERS OF SCIENCE

The new paths of scientific exploration open to youth today offer diverse challenges. Industry, business and education need further developments on many frontiers; the fight against disease and mental illness; solar heating; more complex computing machines and two major contenders, the conquest of outer space and utilization of atomic energy. Each year sees introduction and adoption of many more objects -- hence the need for miniaturization. In eight years Great Britain will have eight atomic reactors, yet there is no entirely satisfactory method of disposal of atomic wastes. Lynn Poole has done four earlier books on specific areas of science. He is public relations director for Johns Hopkins University and director of a television science show. Though this is not comprehensive enough to be considered a vocational guidance handbook of science, it could be considered a catalytic pathfinder for high school students.
