Milo March's wedding day in Denver is interrupted by a requested visit to the Department of Justice in New York City; this leads to his adoption of young Ernesto (The Man Inside -- 1953) and his insurance company routes him through Ohio on business. There he investigates a million dollar policy written on antiques, rare books -- and a diary; there murder strikes three times before he can head home to his bride. Hard-written, but not hard bitten, this continues a good series.
