KIRKUS REVIEW

California killing as Elspeth, staying with her aunt and recently engaged to her handsome cousin, finds this prospect removed by murder. Points of puzzlement include a sullen cook, a crippled brother, a vindictive housepainter, and a general antagonism to Elspeth's engagement. The local sheriff quietly works his way to a solution based on the theory that handsome is as handsome does. Worthy.
