The Chicago Dunbarton, MacGregor department store, at the height of the Christmas rush in the toy section, forms the setting for two killings, in which Lt. Powledge rummages around in the lives of all those connected with the store to find his killer. Crossed and finally aided by the sister of one of the corpses, he catches the murderer and ties up all the loose threads. Fair.
