A novel of murder, rather than straight detection, for Kerry's position as assistant to Dr. Henten, who has had a stroke, in blitsed England, is hampered by her sex, and by his three daughters. Her heroic deeds during bombings wins the community's respect. Her growing love for Lance, Dr. Benton's son-in-law, and her attempts to cope with the problem of Hargaret's disfigurement after an auto accident, to subdue Anne Henton from isolating Margaret from the world, to run the household despite wartime troubles, and to protect Lance's son, all come to a head when Dr. is killed. Through Scotland Yard and Lance, the killer is found, but not before share is a second killing. Good yarn.
