KIRKUS REVIEW

A very good delineation, this is written in clear simple terms and lets the facts speak for themselves. One gets a sense of history in the contrast between the east coast townspeople and the adventures who, like Boone, decided to try for new land. And without exclamations of admiration, the account of the hardships and techniques of pioneering is far more graphic and valuable than in the raft of more laudatory books for the age group.
