KIRKUS REVIEW

A readable tale with more substance than the author's Mushroom Heaven -- should be good rental library fodder. The plot is a bit far fetched, but as it is told seems plausible enough -- a story of mixed racial inheritance, of antagonisms and ambitions at war, of a man who was a different being to each of the women in his life. Leisurely English tale, with a background shifting from France to England and back. Unimportant -- but a good ""filler"".
