JOHNNY-UP AND JOHNNY-DOWN

Two Quaker cousins named after one Grandpa are distinguished geographically by the nicknames, Johnny-Up (the creek) and Johnny-Down. The boys' energetic teasing of an old penned up ram, causes Johnny-Up's mother to take action. Johnny-Up needs some gentling she decides, and what better way than to set him sewing a patchwork quilt! Mortified by the lion and more as by his cousin's teasing, Johnny-Up's embarrassment is a little relieved by Jennls Hall, the most popular girl at Meeting. Nevertheless the epithet, ""sissy"" sticks until Johnny-Up performs an act of bravery in which both boy and quilt are redeemed. It all happens in a flash. The ram suddenly escapes from his pen and quick thinking Johnny-Up traps him by throwing the quilt over his head. Sewing notwithstanding, only the bravest of boys would attempt this feat. An appealing story and pictures with an old-fashioned charm that will ironically capture the female audience.
