THE PEDDLER'S CLOCK

The warm glow of a closely-knit New England farm family of a century ago pervades this rare little tale of Mother who wanted a clock so badly she traded the family cow for it, and Father who, for all his stern refusal, finally gave in. The story has an astonishing amount of character for such a slender book, and the pictures by Elizabeth Orton Jones are exquisite.
