THE LITTLE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES

In format, a big flat picture book (about the size of the big Babar books). Pictures and text intermingled -- a skillful job of condensation, without any attempt at interpretation or expansion. Really, an ideal introduction to United States history, for children just beyond the picture book stage. And a unifying of facts for children who are able to read the text for themselves (about third grade). One might quibble over the stereotyped version of such things as the Boston Tea Party, but all in all, Miss Pyne has succeeded in doing what might have seemed an impossible task. Sorry we are so late in reporting this. The book was not available until publication.
