MY DADDY DON'T GO TO WORK

Mama says it's okay, we can live on what she makes. Daddy gets discouraged and thinks about going away to look for work. But something will turn up. Everything's gonna be okay, Daddy, I say. And meanwhile Daddy is the best cook there ever was and we all sit down to eat the best vegetable soup there ever was. If you think of books as psychological support systems and see value in simply reflecting problem situations, okay; here you have that approach reduced to its purest form, with tasteful black-and-white drawings and a proper emphasis on the poor black family's loving closeness. And if your Daddy never goes into the kitchen except for another beer and your Mama's fed up and shows it, maybe tomorrow there will be a book just for you.
