KIRKUS REVIEW

The Grant Wood illustrations pull this book out of the general run of introductory farm books, where the text would place it. The story of two city boys who come to spend a summer vacation on the farm, of the farm animals, the daily round -- milking, hunting eggs, seeing chicks hatch out, harvesting, and so on. Interspersed with the ""adventures"" are anecdotes of country life told by the grandparents. The Grant Wood illustrations, in color, have a simplicity and a certain ""architectural"" quality that show how it is possible for the modern artist to adapt his technique to the art of illustrations.
