Whatever Fr. William F. Lynch writes is bound to command attention of the serious minded. Here he touches on another weighty subject (his The Image Industries was widely debated) but with a timeliness of application to the problems of our times on a more basic level. This is an exploration into the influence of Western thought on the world which becomes a defense of ""contracity"" -- the constantly recurring fact that many contraries, instead of constituting alternatives for choice, ""are mutually creative of each other and cannot live without each other"". That this concept is overlooked in the passion of discussion, debate and conflict of ideas -- whether on the personal, national or international level -- is quite apparent. This work is truly a synthesis of Fr. Lynch's wide study of thinkers of the past and the present from which he draws to provide a base for his own conclusions Unfortunately, the absence of applications of his theory to specific instances, plus an ""in the clouds"" approach will limit what is an important book to readership by the academic fraternity and the author's peers.
