Many books have been written about the revolutionary Saint Francis who changed the world as few men have been able to do throughout history. There have been good and bad books among them. For the most part, however, they manage to add a new appreciation and understanding of this unique personality who continues to be admired, respected and venerated seven centuries later. At first glance, this book might appear to be but a pious effort to present the basic message of the Little Poor Man of Assisi. It is anything but that. Maria Sticco here offers all men -- not just the many followers of St. Francis -- an unusual interpretation of the central theme of the saint's social message to the world in a way which will be understood even by the more sophisticated readers of hagiography. Something of the greatness of Francis of Assisi comes across easily and with conviction. This is truly a unique treatment of a perennially popular subject offering a timeless but timely lesson for all men of our times to heed.
