KIRKUS REVIEW

An especially welcome addition to Sheed and Ward's paperback Canterbury series is Maisie Ward's The Authenticity of the Gospels published originally as They Saw His . Miss Ward traces the evolution of the Gospels from the first verbal accounts given after the death of Christ until they were recorded by the Evangelists through divine inspiration. In separate chapters she provides interesting and little-known background material about Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and then launches into a study of their different styles and methods of recording the events in Christ's life. She ends her book with practical suggestions for her readers to use in perusing the New Testament with maximum benefit.
