A simple text and the author's delightful, if rather static, colored pictures tell of young Per and Stina's experiences with the forest animals around their country home. In winter they feed the birds, in spring they see a 'possum, in summer a fox in the forest. Then they come across a fawn with a broken leg and take it home to have their father set it. A warm companionship develops but the children understand when he finally returns to the woods. Tame but enjoyable.
