AS I LIVE AND BREATHE

Fans of Malcolm Boyd have long waited, through a series of mediocre books, for a worthy successor to Are You Running With Me, Jesus? The present work, it seems, is it. As I Live and Breathe is the stow of Father Boyd's life, or at least of the first forty-five years of it. It is also the story of how his ideas and his special ""mission"" were formed in a ministry filled with controversy, accusations, petty intrigues and politics both within and without the Church. Boyd does not, however, harbor a shred of bitterness about his own troubles. His wrath, almost prophetic in its dimensions, is reserved for the oppressors of the people of God: the blacks, the poor, the victims of big and callous government; and it is a wrath which is more effective for being understated and heightened with wit and humor. Considerably less studied than Are You Running, of much wider scope than Boyd's later books, and more pertinent than anything that this author has done before, this book may prove to be the Event of the Year in religious publishing.
