DOWN NORTH by Malcolm MacDonald

DOWN NORTH

By

Publisher: Farrar & Rinehart

The story of two short airplane trips in the vast regions of far Northern Canada, told with a feeling for the romance of this region's past. This is history from the fabulous Hudson Bay Company down, and its history is young -- its original settlers are many of them still alive, so that much of this is first hand. The geography and the beauty of the whole North, the peoples -- Mounties and bush pilots and the American soldiers at Fort St. John to the Old Crow Indians, the Eskimos, and the traders at Aklavik; places; events. The author's fascination with the region is apparent, the romance and promise of the region is catching -- for a book which is largely travel, part background.
