THE LAST MAMMOTH by Manly Wade Wellman

THE LAST MAMMOTH

By

Pub Date: April 15th, 1953
Publisher: Holiday, House

Well told and not too entirely fanciful, this is the adventure of young Sam Ward who goes west from North Carolina in 1755 to an outlying Cherokee village to kill a mammoth that has been bothering them. Mr. Wellman's basis for his tale is that old Indian tribal accounts have mentioned animals like mammoths. But to get on with the story, Sam, and his Indian friend Otter run into trouble in the form of jealous Eagle Wing, get thrashed a bit by the monster Giluhda before they kill it with a home forged spear. Light history suspense.
