Appointment in Samarra theming for a slight chiller whose derivative qualities depend on the individual actions of those destined to be murdered by a maniac. Amnesia victim Cassius, haunted by his part in a mass killing, tries to withdraw, but incident on incident impel all but one to a rendezvous with him. The crossing and intercrossing paths of a neurotic virgin, a selfless hysteric, a rapist, a discontented cynic, a selfish mother and her nymphomaniac daughter, a puerile, dependent artist, a hardheaded mystic -- cause each involuntarily to seek -- and find -- the escape they desire... A touch of the sardonic pushes this up a notch for this type of story, but it doesn't miss many shades of perversities, and is not for everyone. P.L.'s beware.
