Here's a situation common in the real world and uncommon in children's books: D.W. (of D.W. Flips) spends her first day at the beach avoiding the water and asking, ""When are we leaving?"" Big brother Arthur finally sweeps her up into a piggyback ride (in spite of D.W.'s hands over his eyes, which provide a nice bit of humor) and dumps her in. Fortunately, she loves it. Brown's watercolors have all their usual comic good nature, combined with the lovely lyricism that the beach landscape evokes in so many artists. No matter how many beach books are already in the collection, this is a must.
