BEING TOGETHER: Our Relationships with Other People

A disquisition on interhuman encounters of a psychological-philosophical-mystical nature, at a far and superior remove from the ""touching naivete of some books on the subject, namely American ones."" Father Oraison, who needs no introduction here, offers ""signposts""; one's perception of oneself to begin with is limited only by what one is to other people, and one's relationship with others can be not only ""the focus. . . of deepest suffering"" but highest potential happiness. The discussion examines various types of relationships returning to the initial, affective mother-child liaison and proceeding, predictably, to that ""Other""--God. Throughout Father Oraison illustrates them pertinently and makes some subtler if accessible distinctions.
