The Introduction states the reason for the present volume as ""...the awakening to consciousness...concerning the moral implications of sex and its practices...(Christians of the last century)...avoided facing up to certain issues, and therefore fell short of sufficient reflection on them."" This volume seeks to fill a further need: the subject of Christian marriage treated by a man who is at once a theologian and a psychologist. Fr. Oraison demonstrates a profound knowledge of humanity; his closely reasoned pages give us one of the best treatments to date in this fast growing field. He touches forcefully not only on the marriage problem but on its antecedents,- pre-marital affairs, masturbation, traffic with prostitutes, in their psychological ramifications, causes, effects and results in marital happiness. He effectively blends the complex of religious, psychological and physical motivation in what amounts to the argument for a sane sex life. The book is consistently high-toned and scholarly without being heavy or difficult. While in no sense a popularization, an ordinary college graduate can handle it with ease. Imprimatur.
