EUROPE THIS WAY

More than the subtitle ""A Definitive, Up-to-the-Minute Guide to European Travel for the American Student"" should justify the price--this is 640 pages of condensed information for the young of today who no longer take the Grand Tour with a steamer trunk but ""travel light, play it loose."" The general information is excellent: types of work abroad (referrals throughout on where to apply)--camps, au pair jobs, teaching or study sessions, etc. There are tours indicated and how to evaluate them; transportation of all kinds; entertainment; health; money; clothes; passports. Except in key cities, the authors do not say where to eat or what it will cost (but in Paris, along with a few inexpensive restaurants, Maxim's and the Tour d'Argent seem quite out of line); they do refer you to various agencies to secure accommodations; but most of the country by country, city by city and side-tripping entails what you should be seeing by day and doing by night with considerable more expansiveness and seriousness than say Where the Fun Is (1968--p. 1519). There have been other Student Guides but this can stand up to any competition and should be a passe partout for any of the 250,000 students who find themselves over there--in pup tents or pensions not too garnis.
