MICHELANGELO

There is a flash of real feeling for the place of the artist in this otherwise not particularly original biography of perhaps the greatest artist that ever lived. An interpretative account of his life and works, following routine knowledge of the facts of his life, bringing in something of the background against which he lived, the conflict between pagan and Christian, the influence of Savonarola. He touches lightly on suspicions of homosexuality, but makes nothing of it. Thoroughly readable.
