A WOMAN OF LETTERS

The role of writer was the lodestone which drew a young English girl of vicarage background, and there is dual meaning in the title, for during a period in her youth she became a mail carrier in the Scottish Highlands. There she met the man she loved, despite his undefined role as a secret agent, which prevented their marriage. then into her life came a European, a Baron. Her Anglo-Saxonism did not stand out long against his romanticism, but they split on his practical realism when the choice lay between marriage and the loss of a fortune. So once again her writing became her life- until, after the war, chance brought her again into contact with the man she loved. So gracefully, and in such good taste, is the story told, that some young people may find it ""old fashioned""- but others will sense its refreshing quality.
