PEAKS AND LAMAS

A curious and interesting blend of mountain climbing in the Himalayas and the study of the Tibetan tradition, of adventure and mysticism. The book really falls into two parts, the one following the experiences of the author and his party, in mountain climbing expeditions and visits to the lamassaries of northern India. Then comes the second part, the study of the Tibetan art, of Tibetan Buddhism, of the essential motivating spirit, and of the people that comprise the order. In the opening up to ways of modern life, the traditions are exposed to the dangers of loss of fundamentals. Here, perhaps, is a book that will meet the need of today's readers for a metaphysical approach.
