Family give and take and the sharing of ups and downs animated this story set in the backwoods of Pennsylvania of the 1850's. When the floods came and ruined the pumpkin crop Sary was heart-broken since she had planned to exhibit her pumpkins at the fair and win first prize so that she might buy ber brother Zeke the violin he wanted so much. But she wins two prizes thanks to the intervention of beloved Uncle Ed, and has a wonderful surprise on Christmas morning. A warm-hearted, appealing story.
