A mystery-adventure set in the Badlands of South Dakota. Fourteen-year old Steve Austin is boarding in town during the school year with Dr. Joe and his daughter Joelle, aged twelve, and Peter Hapolak. He wants to fly under the tutelage of Thunder Jones, veteran pilot, but Steve's father, living on the cattle ranch in the Badlands, forbids it. Joelle discovers a mysterious stranger, however, in the snows of the Badlands. When some of Mr. Austin's cattle are stolen, and Peter's sheep herding father is taken ill during a blizzard, Steve finds he must use his flying skill to rescue Peter's father and with the help of Joelle and Peter to solve the cattle rustling mystery. A happy ending with the rustlers caught, the lonesome stranger revealed, and Steve's father with a change of heart. Some exciting chases through the snow with sled dogs to interest the dog and adventure lovers.
