There's fancy for the ""wish-I-had-a-wish"" stage, in a funny story about young David and his experiences in just how inconvenient wishes can often be. For picking up an old soda vender's hat, David is given a magic bottle which will grant him a wish a day. Next morning David sees it's raining outside and wishes he could play seas and islands indoors. Immediately there are pools of water in the house and all day David, his mother, father, spaniel Punch and Norah the cook, must maneuver against the activities of the wetness. Another awkward situation arises when David wishes Punch were his brother and for a day the dog is treated with all the deference due David.
