KIRKUS REVIEW

A short introduction to a short time- the first five years- explains the child's first attempts toward self-expression from sounds to words to sentences- in year to year intervals. While there should be no oohing and aahing and cooing, there should be an attempt made to encourage and stimulate the child's attempt to speak- through play activities and reading. Mrs. Greene, a speech therapist, is always aware of the relationship between emotional maturity and motor dexterity but she does not go into any of the later, more serious speech problems.... Basic.
