KIRKUS REVIEW

A crisp attractive job of popularizing the story of our federal government, its organization and function. In concise, meaty text, with animated charts, spot drawings, and illustrations by Jeanne Bendick, the book outlines the departments and branches of the Federal Government. Bug hunters, home economists, patent officers, food and drug administration, and many of the human aspects of government are included along with the story of the TVA, of conservation, Civil Service, how a bill becomes law, Emergency War Agencies, Interstate Commerce, Post Office, and Washington, D.C. itself. A challenging chapter, We Are The Government, brings the subject to the level of the young reader's responsibility. Attractive format and simple approach will bring into line readers who would shy away from average civics texts.
