This covers so much that the average trade book on horses fails to touch that it should prove a very useful item for the average income customer who has horses (and who cannot afford the services of a groom or even the purchase of the de luxe volumes on their care and handling). First a description of familiar breeds, their character and purpose. Then discussion of tack -- of vehicles -- of stable accessories. The main body of the book deals with the handling of horses, feeding, grooming, care, how to cope with various vices, first aid, etc. The costs of owning horses are honestly and fairly presented. There is a brief section on riding instructions and driving instructions, but the author has written another book Teaching the Young To Ride and does not pretend that space permits this subject to be handled adequately here. There are however excellent hints to adults on the initial steps.
