Twelve year old Bill Campbell ran away from home in Nacogdoches, Texas, to join his older brother, Buck, in Bexar with Davy Crockett's Volunteers. The brothers are reunited and Buck dies at the final breakthrough of Santa Anna's forces at the Alamo. Bill has been left to guard women and children in the chapel. But Bill has his chance at retaliation when he serves with General Houston at the final defeat of Santa Anna. This is an easy reading spectator view of the Battle of the Alamo told fairly simply but with no distinction.
