KIRKUS REVIEW

Margaret Mayorga, author of A Short History of American Drama, and editor of many anthologies of short plays suitable for little theatre production, has compiled a playwright roster in her Twentieth Anniversary Edition which includes Maxwell Anderson, Sherwood Anderson, Archibald MacLeigh, Arthur Miller, Eugne O'Neill, Gertrude Stein and Tennessee Williams. Mood and milieu are varied in the twenty eight short plays, with urban and rural locales setting the for casts of a dozen players or so. Essays and stimulating commentary on the American theatre accompany the brief dramas, many of which have appeared on New York and television stages. A collection of interest to theatre goers and dramatic groups.
