The day after his high school graduation Phil Kemp starts shopping around for his first set of wheels, something like a second-hand Volks, and ends up instead with a half share in a racing car and a college roomie whose uncle is a top pit mechanic. Phil has definitely found his groove and from then on he has a whirlwind career, graduating posthaste from Sportsman and Modified-Sportsman to get the checkered flag in his first big-time NASCAR laps as a relief driver. The setbacks all occur off the racing oval; forget them and concentrate on the lap times, rpms and fender bumping. A fair showing.
